This is the time of year that you need to check your shed. Before the worst of the winter weather arrives. You'll still have time if you start early enough. Plus, it will be much easier to do when the weather is better. Prevention is often cheaper and easier than fixing a bigger problem later!
Make sure that any openings can be shut tight. You don't want rain and snow to get inside your shed through doors or windows as this can easily cause damage to the things stored inside and possibly the shed too.
If your shed is constructed of wood, are all the panels still in good shape and condition?
If you've not done it for some time you should treat your wooden shed with a good protective coat. This helps your shed survive the winter and means that your shed will last a lot longer. Most good hardware stores will have a range of suitable products. If you're not sure then the in-store staff will be able to help you.
Check the roof ensuring that it is still waterproof and will stay that way all winter. Some types of roofing materials will need replacing from time to time. If your shed has gutters then make sure you clear out any build up of leaves. If you don't do this it can lead to rain getting inside the shed or accelerating any damage to the rest of the shed.
Any locks and hinges requiring routine maintenance should be lightly oiled (or similarly treated) as per the storage shed's instruction manual.
Whilst you may be tempted to ignore your shed over the winter it is best to make routine inspections to ensure that it continues to stay dry on the inside during the winter.
